Women-led responses: Peacebuilding and conflict prevention
Targeted advocacy campaigns and broad awareness raising for ensure gender-responsive and conflict-sensitive crisis response and recovery
Women peacebuilders around the world have raised their voices to call for an equitable, gender-responsive and conflict-sensitive COVID-19 response and recovery.
In Colombia, on April 7, 2020, several coalitions of national civil society organizations from the Pacific region drafted a letter to President Iván Duque demanding that the national government provide Afro-Colombian and Indigenous peoples protection and the right to peace. In Northern Ireland, Women’s Policy Group has developed a Feminist Economic Recovery Plan for Northern Ireland, which has been shared with all Ministries, as a civil society proposal for equitable recovery. Women-led groups have also successfully advocated to ensure that women that are put on furlough do not lose their maternity leave privileges, even if the reduced salary puts them below the usual threshold for maternity leave.
