Women-led responses: Peacebuilding and conflict prevention

Countering fake news

Women peacebuilders know that fake news can be a source of tension and conflict. They have created fact-checking tools and disseminated reliable information to counter fake news in their countries and communities.

For example, in the Philippines, Young Women Leaders for Peace, with support from GNWP, have used social media to counter fake news and hateful narratives related to the COVID-19 pandemic on the internet. They launched a communications campaign focused on being a good “Digital Citizen" to raise awareness about fake news, and share guidance on responsible use of social media.
