Women-led responses: Humanitarian action

Awareness and information campaigns on preventative measures on media

Women peacebuilders have translated information about COVID-19 preventative measures and distributed it through accessible communication channels – such as text messages, WhatsApp and community radio – to make sure they reach local communities and rural women.

Youth peacebuilders in Iraq turned to social media to raise awareness of the risks of the virus and how to prevent them. They use several languages and dialects to reach as many minority groups in Iraq as possible. They share both virus prevention measures and conflict prevention measures in short videos. In Kenya, GNWP’s partner, Rural Women Peace Link reached over 4.5 million grassroots community members with radio messages about safe practices during COVID-19, which were translated to local languages and broadcasted in community radios.
