Background: Synergie des Femmes pour les Victimes de Violences Sexuelles (SFVS)/ Women Synergy for Women Victims of Sexual Violence is a network of 35 organizations, the majority of which are women’s associations, which brings together the organizations’ strength, resources and expertise. SFVS was created in 2002 in order to reflect on ways to support abused women and socially marginalized girls. The organization is based in the Eastern province of North Kivu, DRC.
Mission: The mission of SFVS revolves around advocacy and lobbying. SFVS aims to mobilize women around the issue of sexual violence. The organization encourages survivors of sexual violence to become actors of peace through self-awareness and self-promotion of their rights.
Programs: SFVS programs offer medical and psychological support as well as professional training to women survivors of sexual violence in the province of North Kivu. SFVS programs help reconstruct social communities, villages and families ravaged by the scourge of sexual violence committed against women, through awareness raising via the medium of mobile cinema. SFVS programs also help fight impunity by supporting victims of sexual violence in courts, by holding press conferences and by presenting an alternative report during the Universal Periodic Review of DRC.
