Kitgum Women’s Peace Initiative (KIWEPI)

Kitgum Women’s initiative (KIWEPI) was established by the women of Kitgum to foster a peaceful and informed society that engages in sustainable development. KIWEPI was a response to the victimization of escaped children, women and girls who were often rejected by their own communities, labeled, stigmatized and marginalized.

The mission of KIWEPI is to promote peacebuilding and conflict resolution; economic empowerment and building livelihoods; and the elimination of sexual and gender-based violence. KIWEPI also advocates for the implementation of UN Resolutions 1325, 1820 and the Goma Declaration; promotes reconciliation and recovery processes and works to ensure women’s involvement in peacebuilding conflict resolution.
