International Day of Peace

Today, September 21, 2015, marks the International Day of Peace. The theme for this year’s Day of Peace is “Partnership for Peace, Dignity for All,” and with this message the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders is launching the Women Speak Out for Peaceglobal media campaign. We urge others to use this time as an opportunity to reach out and speak out for peace by writing letters, blog posts, Facebook posts, Tweets and text messages to:
1. To transform the depiction of women in conflict settings from victims to peacebuilders, decision-makers and change agents;
2. To raise extensive awareness and knowledge of UNSCR 1325, 1820 and other supporting WPS resolutions; and of their practical application at the country and community levels; and
3. To demand greater accountability from governments, the UN, regional organizations and fellow civil society actors to honor their obligations under the WPS resolutions including but not limited to the development and implementation of National Action Plans.
To kick off the 2015 International Day of Peace, GNWP is pleased to share an article by Ambassador Anwarul K. Chowdhury on women’s role in peacebuilding as well as a blog post shared by Senator Mobina Jaffer of Canada.
Stand up, speak out, and demand peace!
