
Hira Amjad
Cora Weiss Peacebuilding Fellow
Hira Amjad is the Cora Weiss Peacebuilding Fellow at the GNWP. She is also the Founder & Executive Director at DASTAK Foundation and Global Advisor – Asia-Pacific at FRIDA (Global Feminist Fund). She holds a Master of Philosophy in peace and conflict studies. Her academic interests include human rights, peacebuilding, gender justice, femtech and sustainable development.
She has experience working on different projects to support the application of women, peace and security at the local level, eliminate gender-based violence and strengthen gender equality policy development in Georgia.
Hira is also a social justice leader with expertise in developing knowledge products and programs, organizational transformations, leading campaigns and organizing communities, with a particular focus on peacebuilding, gender justice, technology and feminist leadership. She founded DASTAK Foundation in 2019, a registered women- and survivor-led non-profit with the mission to contextualize the Women, Peace and Security agenda and to advance social justice, particularly sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) prevention, sexual and reproductive health rights and feminist leadership capacity development in Pakistan. As a visionary leader, she is on a mission to decolonise the women’s rights movement through her initiative AMPLIFY Feminism, strengthen SGBV prevention through her platform Waseela and mainstream comprehensive sexuality education for youth at religious seminaries through a femtech tool titled Marham.
Additionally, her work with young women and girls during the 2022 floods under the ‘Dignity Campaign’ in Pakistan supported 15,000 menstruating womxn and 500 pregnant women and was recognized nationally as well as internationally. Hira is a fellow with ifa (CrossCulture Programme), Swedish Institute’s Leader Lab, Rise Up and Vital Voices Visionaries.
She was awarded the Human Rights Award by the Geneva Centre for Human Rights and Global Dialogue for her work towards sexual and gender-based violence prevention in Pakistan in 2021.
