Prior to her studies at NYU, Emma worked at World Relief, a refugee resettlement agency. There, she served as the match grant specialist, assisting refugees in attaining sustainable housing, employment and access to healthcare. At NYU Emma has conducted research on United Nations resolutions and how the context of gender mentioned in these resolutions affects peace efforts in the field. Emma has also written papers on the marginalization of women through the green revolution, the importance of designing programs for refugee women to promote independence, hypermasculinity in Russia, and sexual education reform in the Southern United States. Emma formerly consulted for the African Youth Initiative Network (AYINET), a local peacebuilding organization in Uganda, in 2019. In this role, she works directly with the Executive Director, assisting in fundraising and ensuring that AYINET programs are guided by United Nations Resolutions on Peacebuilding.
