DRC launches its Localization Guidelines on UNSCR 1325 and 1820

Goma, August 14, 2015 – GNWP is proud to announce the launch of the Guidelines for the Integration of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1325 and 1820 into Local Development Plans in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in partnership with Cadre Permanent de Concertation de la Femme Congolaise (CAFCO) and the Ministry of Gender, Family and Children and the Ministry of Decentralization (le Ministère du Genre, de la Famille et de l’Enfant et le Ministère de la Décentralisation). The launch will take place on August 18, 2015 in Kinshasa, DRC.
The Localization Guidelines will support the implementation of the DRC’s National Action Plan (NAP) on UNSC Resolutions 1325 and 1820. Specifically, it will serve as a manual on how local authorities responsible for local development planning can integrate women and peace and security commitments into their plans and in implementing such plans. The Localization Guidelines will also strengthen collaboration between national and local governance bodies, as well as civil society, in order to achieve the goals of the NAP.
The celebration in Kinsha, DRC marks the third set of Guidelines to be created for implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1325 and 1820. The other two countries that have developed Localization Guidelines are Nepal and Sierra Leone. The production of the Localization Guidelines in DRC was made possible by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
