MS Student in Global Affairs with a concentration in Peacebuilding and a focus on gender

Ali is a master’s student at NYU’s Center for Global Affairs pursuing a degree in Global Affairs with a concentration in Peacebuilding and a focus on gender. Her research interests include conflict-related sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), feminist approaches to peacebuilding, and alternative political and economic systems in post-conflict societies.
Ali spent this past summer in Colombia and Uganda, working with local peacebuilding organizations. She conducted participatory action research with human rights defenders in Colombia, facilitating focus groups and interviews with youth, LGBTQ+, and female social leaders. She also worked in Lira, Uganda, with the African Youth Initiative Network (AYINET) to develop a training manual for mental health professionals who support survivors of SGBV in humanitarian emergencies.
Ali has a Bachelor of Science in Biology & Society from Cornell University. She is currently an Advocacy intern at NGO CSW/NY and a graduate assistant at NYU’s Peace Research and Education Program (PREP).
